I would like to add my support to the request for a Bandstand in the Abbey Gardens,
Bury St Edmunds. This is an excellent idea and I think a crowd-

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
At our last meeting the subject of a Bandstand in the Abbey Gardens was discussed.
There was unanimous support for this from the members of the Women’s Fellowship and we approved the design shown to us. We did not discuss another siting and were all happy for it to be built on or near the old site – but willing to listen to other suggestions.
We would support an appeal for this enterprise and hope the plans will go ahead in the near future.

There is a bandstand from my home town in Oosterhout, The Netherlands, which has been around for many years and I have very fond memories of going to the park as a young lad. i I would like to emphasise the advantage of a raised band stand, as many more people will be able to enjoy the music and views of the stand.
Good luck with your lobbying. You have my full support. RvdO

I personally feel the creation of a bandstand in the Gardens would be a great idea and could be used for both formal and informal musical entertainment. This idea has been around for quite a while but currently there seems to me to be some momentum for this to actually happen. MC
I would like to add the possibility of a Victorian Bandstand in the Aviary Area . A good Souza March or two always cheers us up on a sunny day.

"A community with the status of Bury St Edmunds needs a bandstand for all sorts of organisations to benefit not just brass and concert bands.
I am sure The Gislingham Silver Band would certainly support such a project.
In researching the possibility of an early 19th century band in the town I have found that Robert Boby had a brass band at his St Andrew's engineering works in 1899. At that time he was employing upwards of 300 men at his Station Hill works". D.Cawdell, Gislingham Silver Band
"Have just read the recent article in the Mercury. I think that a bandstand in the
Gardens would be a great attraction for townsfolk and visitors. It could also be
used for other things as well-
I am fully behind a permanent Band Stand we have needed one for years"

I would very much support the idea of a bandstand in the Abbey Gardens which would be a REAL enhancement to the town in addition to the wonderful planting done annually. It would be there for many, many years to come and subsequent generations would get great pleasure from this addition to the AG.
Many years ago I lived at Chedburgh and spent many happy hours in Bury St Edmunds especially on a Wednesday when the market and auction was on. I think that the idea of a bandstand in The Abbey Gardens is a fantastic idea and believe that it would provide hours of entertainment for everyone in such a tranquil setting just a few yards away from the hubbub of the town centre. I would like to see a new bandstand in abbey gardens. I can only see the positive
side of having one. There are many obvious benefits.
I fully support your efforts to provide a permanent “Victorian” bandstand in the Abbey Gardens.
I attended the Council presentation in the Apex last week and made my view known both verbally and in writing on a signed “post it”. The only response I got was talk of a moveable wooden structure!
I also believe several of their proposals are unnecessary but I am sure all will be well providing the Parks Manager gets a new office!
